First-visit itinerary Five days
Five days in Dubai.
A little city, a little space.
A balanced framework for seeing different sides of Dubai while leaving room for your own pace.
The short answer
Spread the trip across Old Dubai, Downtown, the coast, one substantial experience and a flexible day. This keeps each day focused and gives you options to swap based on weather, opening times or energy.
Use the sequence as a starting point, not a fixed calendar. Confirm attraction hours, event schedules, transport and tour details for your exact dates. A desert tour can take much of a day, so avoid adding a second distant commitment.
Day 1 · Old Dubai
Begin with neighbourhoods and the Creek.
Choose one heritage area, museum or Creek-side experience and give it enough time to feel like a visit rather than a checklist. Add a public marine crossing only after checking the actual RTA route and service. Keep the evening close by or confirm a cruise’s specific boarding point and inclusions.
For guided versus independent options, read our Dubai city-tour guide.
Day 2 · Downtown
Anchor the day around one timed attraction.
If Burj Khalifa is a priority, choose a ticket level and entry time after checking the official listing. Keep the rest of the day flexible for queues, security, meals and walking. Add a nearby attraction only when its current hours and ticket availability fit.
Use our Burj Khalifa ticket comparison and the Dubai transport guide to plan the journey.
Day 3 · Coast and Marina
Let the waterfront set a slower pace.
Choose a beach, Marina-area walk or water-based booking around what is actually available on your date. Keep the plan within one area where possible. If booking a yacht or dhow cruise, confirm the route, departure point, duration, total price and cancellation terms in writing.
See what to check before a yacht charter or dhow cruise.
Day 4 · Desert experience
Plan around the tour, not around assumptions.
A desert outing can involve pickup, travel, activities and a later return. Check the operator’s exact schedule, location, inclusions, age or mobility restrictions and cancellation terms. Leave the following morning or evening less tightly booked if your return time matters.
Compare morning, evening, overnight and private safari formats before choosing.
Day 5 · Your choice
Keep one day for what you discover.
Before you lock it in
Keep the itinerary useful, not brittle.
- Check the actual accommodation address against each day’s main area.
- Use current official opening times and transport timetables, not old screenshots.
- Book essential timed entries and keep realistic travel buffers.
- Check event calendars and holiday schedules for date-specific changes.
- Plan for heat, meals, rest and accessibility needs across the group.
- Ask tour operators to confirm pickup, inclusions, return time and cancellation terms.
