Stay planning guide Dubai

Choose your Dubai base
by the days you want.

The right area is the one that makes your actual itinerary easier—not the one at the top of a generic ranking.

The short answer

Choose accommodation by the places you plan to visit most, your transport links, and the pace you want outside the hotel. Dubai is spread across distinct areas; a lower room rate can be offset by extra travel time and fares if your plans are elsewhere.

Visit Dubai describes a broad range of accommodation for different budgets. This guide is an orientation to compare locations—not a hotel ranking, live price comparison or claim about the current value of any particular property.

Start with your itinerary

Which kind of base fits you?

01

Downtown and Business Bay

Consider this if several plans are around Downtown or central Dubai.

Look at the exact address against the attractions, restaurants and meeting points you plan to use. “Downtown” or “near Downtown” in a property name does not tell you the walk, crossing, station access or door-to-door travel time.

Compare: distance to the places you’ll visit, station access, room conditions and the full cost for your dates.

02

Dubai Marina and JBR

Consider this if you want your downtime and plans centred around the coast.

Compare the property’s precise location with your intended beach, Marina or JBR plans. The district covers more than one pocket; check walking routes, transport connections and how you’ll get to inland attractions.

Compare: what is genuinely walkable from the address, beach access terms and your transport plan for other days.

03

Deira and Bur Dubai

Consider this if your plans include Old Dubai and you value a more historic city setting.

These are distinct areas on either side of Dubai Creek, with different streets and transport connections. Check the exact accommodation address and daily routes rather than treating “Old Dubai” as one compact hotel district.

Compare: nearest Metro or marine transport stop, crossing or transfer needed, and the evening journey back.

04

Palm Jumeirah and resort areas

Consider this if the stay itself—rather than a central base—is a major part of the holiday.

Resort location can shape the whole trip. Check how you will travel to other areas, whether advertised beach or pool access applies to your room and dates, and which amenities are included rather than charged separately.

Compare: transfers, resort fees, meal plan, access conditions and cancellation terms in the final booking.

Turn preferences into a decision

Choose by the trip, not the label.

01

List your three most important daily destinations.
Compare the actual accommodation address against those places and estimate door-to-door travel for each.

02

Check the last leg of every route.
A Metro station may be nearby on a map but still leave a walk or taxi leg. Verify the route with the official RTA Journey Planner for your dates.

03

Price the whole stay.
Compare taxes, fees, deposits, meals, transport and cancellation terms—not only the nightly rate shown in a search result.

04

Check the details that matter to your group.
Confirm bed setup, occupancy, accessibility, child policies, kitchen or laundry access and any required deposit directly with the property.

05

Allow for special dates.
Large events and holidays can change rates, availability and transport. Check event dates and the property’s own terms before booking a non-refundable room.

Before you reserve

Check the address and the terms.

  • Is the quoted address the property itself, or a marketing area nearby?
  • What is the full total for your dates, including taxes, fees and deposits?
  • What are the check-in, check-out, cancellation and payment terms?
  • Are breakfast, beach, pool, parking and transfers included in your exact rate?
  • Does the room type fit your group and any accessibility needs?
  • How will you reach your main plans—and return at night?
  • Will a public holiday or event affect your dates or travel routes?

Rates, room inventory, facilities and access conditions change. Read the current property terms and contact the property or booking provider if an important detail is unclear.

Common questions

Useful things to know before choosing.

Which area is best for a first trip to Dubai?

There is no best area for everyone. Start with your daily itinerary, preferred pace, transport needs and accommodation budget; then compare actual addresses and total stay costs.

Is it better to stay near the beach or Downtown?

Choose based on how you want to spend downtime and which places you plan to visit. A beach-oriented stay and a central sightseeing base serve different trip shapes; check travel time and fares between them before deciding.

Are hotels in Old Dubai always cheaper?

Not always. Rates depend on dates, property, room type, demand and included services. Compare live total prices for the same dates and cancellation conditions rather than assuming an area is cheaper.
