Practical trip-planning guide Dubai transport
Choose how you move
around your Dubai.
Metro, taxi or a driver booked ahead? Match the journey to your arrival, luggage and plans.
A note about our recommendations: Dune SkyLine is our own tour company. Its chauffeur-services page describes airport, hotel, business and event journeys, but does not publish specific vehicle options, transfer prices or service terms in the listing we reviewed. If you request or book service through Dune SkyLine, we may earn from it. We have not personally tested this service. Read our disclosure.
The short answer
Use the Metro when your start and end points are close to stations and the timetable suits. Consider a taxi for direct, on-demand trips, or a pre-arranged chauffeur when you value a planned pickup, have a group or want one provider to coordinate the ride. Check door-to-door travel time and total fare—not just the map distance.
Dubai’s RTA publishes Metro timetables, journey planning and nol fare information. Service hours and routes can change, especially on holidays and special occasions, so check the official RTA tools for your travel date.
Choose for the journey you have
Three ways to get there.
We are not quoting transport prices. Fares, tolls, app pricing, waiting charges and private transfer rates vary. Compare a current door-to-door estimate for your actual journey.
Before you leave the airport
Make the first ride the easy part.
After a long flight, the best option is often the one that matches your arrival time, terminal, luggage and energy. Before you set off, check your flight and terminal information with Dubai Airports and verify the onward route with the transport provider or RTA.
Confirm which airport and terminal
Share the exact airport, terminal, flight number and landing date with anyone arranging a pickup.
Decide how much coordination you want
Public transport requires checking the route and service times; taxis require following the live pickup instructions; a booked driver requires agreeing a meeting point in advance.
Account for bags and companions
Check vehicle capacity, child-seat requirements, mobility needs and whether everyone can travel together.
Plan for delays and waiting
Ask how a late flight, immigration delay or baggage wait affects the pickup and whether waiting time costs extra.
For a pre-booked driver
Get the pickup details in writing.
- What is the exact total price, including tolls, parking and waiting time?
- Which vehicle is booked, and how many passengers and bags can it carry?
- Where exactly will the driver meet us, and how will we identify them?
- Is the flight monitored, and how should we report a delay?
- How long is complimentary waiting time, and what are additional charges?
- Are child seats or accessibility arrangements available, and at what cost?
- What is the cancellation and change policy?
- Is the service a one-way transfer, hourly booking or full-day arrangement?
Common questions
Getting around, made clearer.
Is the Metro always the cheapest way to travel?
Not necessarily for every party or door-to-door trip. Check the current nol fare and compare the full route, including transfers and the time and cost of reaching the final stop.
Should I book an airport transfer before I fly?
Pre-booking can reduce coordination after landing, but compare it with the current public transport and taxi options. If you reserve a driver, confirm the meeting point, flight-delay policy, waiting time and total fare.
Does Dune SkyLine publish a fixed airport-transfer rate?
The Dune SkyLine chauffeur-services page we reviewed describes airport journeys but does not show a fixed transfer price or detailed terms. Ask for a written, date-specific quote before deciding.
